Richard Rogers

Richard Rogers is undoubtedly a design legend. Since the completion of the Pompidou Centre in Paris 30 years ago, he hasn’t looked back.

The Pompidou Centre, the building he designed with Renzo Piano, which propelled him to the forefront of modern architecture is currently celebrating its anniversary with a major retrospective of his work. 30 years on and the centre is still as vibrant and fascinating as ever. Whether you’re a first time visitor, or a fifty-first time visitor, the giant space never fails to disappoint. Galleries used to be stiff, almost solemn places until this exoskeleton chose to turn things on its head. The Pompidou Centre offers a real buzz and excitement, almost like a Saturday morning market, but for art.

If you can’t get to Paris, why not visit the Richard Rogers + Architects exhibition at the Design Museum, London. Other exceptional and high-profile projects include the headquarters for Lloyd’s of London, the Millennium Dome and the National Assembly for Wales. Best of the rest is the The Madrid Barajas Airport project. The new terminal and satellite are designed to handle up to 35 million passengers annually, establishing Madrid as a major European hub. The colour-coded structural ‘trees’ and bamboo clad roof are absolute genius.
